The Master of Advanced Studies in Collective Housing, MCH, is a postgraduate full-time international professional program of advanced architecture design in cities and housing presented by Universidad Politécnica of Madrid (UPM) and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). After nine editions, it is rated as one of the best architecture master’s programs by architects and experts: http://www.mchmaster.com/news/mch-rated-as-the-best-postgraduate-master-in-archi/
Architects from all nations are trained to develop their expertise in these issues and have demonstrated a high professional level, making important contributions in research projects, winning competitions or taking leadership roles in the most relevant architecture firms.
Diploma
UPM and ETH join forces to offer the first UPM / ETH Diploma: “Master of Advanced Studies UPM/ETH in Collective Housing”. ETH Zurich, the most prestigious technology university in the world, signed in 2016 an agreement with UPM that officially recognizes MCH as one of its MAS programs, validating this master with the same recognition than existing further postgraduate courses offered at ETH Zurich. This agreement is based on the importance and commitment of MCH with excellence since its foundation in 2006, when it was offered for the first time at UPM, ETSAM Madrid.
Networking
The thorough selection process of architects and the intensive experience in Madrid create bonds that are meant to last in time. With the help of MCH Alumni, we set in contact participants of different editions to create the basis for research, knowledge and opportunity sharing.
The reduced number of participants allows a close contact with professors as well, who use to respond in a generous way, helping participants to increase their career improvement opportunities.
Occupation & career upgrade
One of our main goals is the job placement of our specialist professionals, who can address global problems and take important roles in the most relevant architecture offices, urban and landscape planning or make contributions in fields such as environmental science, emergency housing or critique of architecture.
The MCH Office will give support and help to participants in their search of new positions, based on their performance during the course.
Program
The program is eminently practical and consists of 600 hours (60 ETCS). Each credit is associated to 25 personal studying-working hours.
Participants will develop their design skills through an intensive series of one-week international workshops and complete their theoretical knowledge in specialty seminars.
In the last edition, Anne Lacaton, Anna Heringer, Andrea Deplazes, Hrvoje Njiriç, Annette Gigon, Vittorio M. Lampugnani, Sarah Whiting, Dietmar Eberle and Josep María Montaner, among others, were faculty members. Also in the past , MCH has built a close relationship with great architects such as Alejandro Aravena, R. Nishizawa, Riken Yamamoto, Rafael Moneo or Kees Christiaanse, who participated as professors in different editions. It is the interaction between teachers and participants that generates the greatest results and production each year.
